At the end of the course you will be able to:

use a limited range of reading strategies to create meaning from short simple texts

Target Group
The specific target groups of EAA for this qualification are domestic and/or international students wishing to undertake an EAL qualification. International students have to study a full time program but domestic students may choose to study full time or to undertake a part time program.

Modes of Delivery
Classroom based: face-to-face training includes:

Practice exercises that reinforce the required interpersonal skills for individual and group work.

Context related training activities in the classroom involving individuals, pairs and small group activities

Learner resource workbooks to support training, independent reading and research projects.

If students are currently working they are able -although not required- to make use of their own workplace experiences and workplace documents in responding to activities.

Within the assessment of the units, learners are required to participate in simulated activities that closely reflect workplace processes and unexpected or contingency related activities

Assessments
Assessment methods have to be flexible, valid, reliable and fair. Assessment of units requires evidence of satisfactory performance for each element of competency and its performance criteria through a variety of tasks depending on the criteria specified. This course will be delivered over a 24 week period of full time study (including course delivery, assessment, public holidays and break)

Participants may enrol in a qualification at the level appropriate to their needs and skills. Outcomes in the 22250VIC Certificate I in EAL (Access) are designed for learners with little or no formal education. Entry points for the courses would normally be determined by an assessment of a student’s skills. Normally EAA will use the Listening and Speaking and Reading and Writing competencies within the Framework to guide placement / initial assessment processes in order to place learners in the level appropriate to their proficiency in English language.

For international students EAA has a requirement that all students must be over 18 years of age at the commencement of course.

Skill Recognition/Credit Transfers
Students may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) by providing evidence that they have the required skills and knowledge in the specific areas of competency through work /industry experience and/or completed eligible assessments in an equivalent or higher qualification.

Appropriate credit transfer may be granted to eligible students against each unit of competency on evidence to successful completion of the same unit in an equivalent or higher nationally endorsed qualification.

Students with credit transfers will finish the course in a shorter duration and are advised to consult appropriate authorities/bodies for applicable criteria if they are planning further study or stay in Australia.
